"You can see that you're helping your fellow man." -Bob Moler
Nearly 30 years ago Bob and Sandy Moler used to volunteer to sort food donations with their son, then a boy scout. Now, after nearly eight years of continuous volunteer service with Community Food Share (CFS), the Molers have contributed over 1,000 hours of service.
Community Food Share efficiently delivers more than four million nutritionally balanced meals each year, and serves as a safety net for those who are hungry in Boulder and Broomfield Counties.
Bob volunteers as an assistant driver, going out with CFS's paid drivers. He is also a substitute Elder Share Driver, delivering groceries to home-bound elderly. "I like to see where the food is going," Bob said. "You can see that you're helping your fellow man."
Sandy coordinates all the other volunteers (including Bob) that distribute food weekly at Columbine Elementary School. She also works the "check-out" at the warehouse for agency shoppers once a week, represents CFS at booths for volunteer fairs, and helps out with receptionist duties like answering the phones. "I enjoy the variety of activities and the good people I work with," Sandy said of CFS. "I think this is a worthwhile activity," she added. "I feel like I'm helping people, helping somebody who's hungry."
"We couldn't exist without them!" said Sue Ericson, Volunteer Coordinator for Community Food Share.
Bob laughed that the exercise from loading and unloading the truck is an added benefit. "I don't have to go the gym," he joked.
Both Bob and Sandy also volunteer as team leaders for community food drives and assist CFS with various projects as needed. "I really recommend [volunteering with] CFS," said Bob. "It's a good organization."
